I am pretty much in love with “Operation Beautiful.” It’s a movement to make women feel better about themselves by encouraging everyone to post notes on public mirrors (i.e. the ladie’s bathroom at a restaurant) with positive phrases written on them.
I was looking through the newest batch of uploads last week when I had a thought—how many of us actually look at ourselves in the mirror?
Sure, we do our hair/makeup/facial regimen in the mirror, but how many of us have just stood in front of the mirror for a few minutes and just stared at ourselves?
I tried it and it was a little awkward at first (it would have only gotten more awkward if my roommate walked in), but after a few seconds, it was uplifting.
This was my face. My body. No one looks exactly like me and I think there’s something extremely beautiful about that.
Here’s your self-esteem challenge: sit/stand in front of a mirror with no makeup, or any other artificial “enhancements,” and just stare at yourself for at least two minutes. Don’t judge. Don’t think about what you would change. Don’t look away. Just accept the reflection looking back at you and realize that you are beautiful just the way you are.
When you’re done with that, you can post a positive message on your mirror to remind yourself how amazing you are every day.
